Neuschwanstein Castle, Bavaria

Neuschwanstein Castle (New Swanstone Castle) is a nineteenth-century Romanesque Revival palace on a rugged hill above the village of Hohenschwangau near Füssen in southwest Bavaria, Germany. The palace was commissioned by Ludwig II of Bavaria as a retreat and as an homage to Richard Wagner. Ludwig paid for the palace out of his personal fortune and by means of extensive borrowing, rather than with Bavarian public funds. It was built between 1869 -1892 and remains unfinished. We were there on a cloudy day which gave a different perspective on the castle. This photo was taken from Marienbrücke (Mary’s Bridge) which is built over the Pöllat Gorge and offers a great view of Neuschwanstein.  (B avaria, Germany – September 2013)
