“Feeding the Bears”

Back in the 1930’s, 1940’s and 1950’s, it was quite common to feed the bears. Crackers dipped in Rogers Golden Syrup was a common “treat” for the bears. Families from Edmonton would regularly rent cabins or houses in Banff for the week. This couple fed the bear while another couple and their kids looked on in awe as well as a bit of fear. The husband who’s holding the can of Rogers Syrup has a bit of a smirk on his face. This photo documents a period of time in Banff where feeding the wildlife was quite common. Feeding any wildlife now results in a hefty fine. (Banff, Alberta, 1943)
